Women play a vital role in agriculture, yet they often lack decision-making power. NIWAS worked to empower women farmers through SHGs (Self-Help Groups) by Training them in organic farming & water-efficient techniques. Helping them access government subsidies for women farmers. Encouraging Kitchen Gardens for food security and additional income. Providing financial literacy & loan support.
"Water Changed Everything for Us!"
Sunita Mitharam Shinde, SHG Member.
"For years, we cultivated our one-acre land entirely dependent on rainfall. During dry spells, we were left with nothing. But with the Jalashay Jal Samruddhi project, silt application was done in our area. I also applied silt on my farm."
"In winter, I grew cotton and earned ₹40,000. But the real change came in summer – for the first time ever, I cultivated a mixed crop of groundnut and onion. The income? An additional ₹33,000!"
"This transformation happened only because I became aware of better water practices, received technical guidance, and got support from my SHG and the project team. Now my dream is to take two crops every year and become financially secure."
